The MMSE has been broadly applied to assess cognitive function, but it is insufficient and highly influenced by education. Ĭognitive function can be measured using several instruments, such as the Clinical Dementia Rating Scale, the Global Deterioration Scale, and the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). Detecting moderate cognitive dysfunction early could decrease the risk factors associated with vascular events, resulting in the prevention of dementia. The prevalence of dementia increases rapidly with age and leads to a burden on public health. The population is rapidly aging worldwide. Our study determined a higher predictive ability in the MoCA than in the MMSE for diagnosing dementia according to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV) criteria in a community-based sample with a broader range of education level. In general, the MoCA yielded higher AUCs (0.891) with favorable sensitivity (78 %) and excellent specificity (94 %) compared with the MMSE in differentiating the participants with and without dementia in either the total sample or all subgroups. The 276 participants had a mean age of 67.9 ± 6.1 years and mean education duration of 11.4 ± 4.0 years. The receiver operating characteristic curve method and area under curve were performed to assess the predictive ability for diagnosing dementia. All of the participants were administered face-to-face interview questionnaires and MoCA and MMSE examinations. MethodsĪ total of 276 people aged 60 years or older were enrolled. Even something as simple and easily treatable as a urinary tract infection can cause alarming cognitive changes. We compared the predictive ability of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) to diagnose dementia in a community-based study. There are many TREATABLE health conditions that could cause these types of symptoms, which is why it’s so important to see a doctor and find out the true cause of the issue. What the score means is that someone needs to be evaluated for any potential cognitive issues. This is a screening test only and MUST be interpreted by a doctor. No, it absolutely does not mean that someone has Alzheimer’s or dementia. For more information, see How We Make Money. This article wasn’t sponsored and doesn’t contain affiliate links. They also can’t be used to distinguish between conditions.įor example, you couldn’t use either test to diagnose someone with Alzheimer’s disease versus frontotemporal dementia. They’re both initial screening tests that are used to determine whether further cognitive testing is needed. Traumatic brain injury (often from falls)Įven though these are good screening tools for cognitive impairments, neither test was designed to diagnose cognitive conditions. The MoCA has also been shown to be a better screening tool for conditions like: So, if a doctor sees a patient who is questioning their mental functioning, they might give the MoCA test.īut if a patient comes in and is clearly cognitively impaired, a very sensitive test wouldn’t be as necessary since the issues are more obvious. The MoCA is generally better at detecting mild impairment and early Alzheimer’s disease because it’s a more sensitive test and is more challenging. The MoCA looks similar to the MMSE, but the MoCA tests a variety of different cognitive functions and the MMSE focuses mostly on memory and recall.
External Interrupts: 2 (interrupt 0), 3 (interrupt 1), 18 (interrupt 5), 19 (interrupt 4), 20 (interrupt 3), and 21 (interrupt 2).Pins 0 and 1 are also connected to the corresponding pins of the ATmega16U2 USB-to-TTL Serial chip. Used to receive (RX) and transmit (TX) TTL serial data. In addition, some pins have specialized functions: Each pin can provide or receive a maximum of 40 mA and has an internal pull-up resistor (disconnected by default) of 20-50 kOhms. The ATmega2560 has 256 KB of flash memory for storing code (of which 8 KB is used for the bootloader), 8 KB of SRAM and 4 KB of EEPROM (which can be read and written with the EEPROM library).Įach of the 54 digital pins on the Mega can be used as an input or output, using pinMode(), digitalWrite(), and digitalRead() functions. A 3.3 volt supply generated by the on-board regulator. This can come either from VIN via an on-board regulator, or be supplied by USB or another regulated 5V supply. The second one is a not connected pin, that is reserved for future purposes. In future, shields will be compatible both with the board that use the AVR, which operate with 5V and with the Arduino Due that operate with 3.3V. 1.0 pinout: added SDA and SCL pins that are near to the AREF pin and two other new pins placed near to the RESET pin, the IOREF that allow the shields to adapt to the voltage provided from the board.Revision 3 of the board has the following new features: Revision 2 of the Mega2560 board has a resistor pulling the 8U2 HWB line to ground, making it easier to put into DFU mode. Instead, it features the ATmega16U2 (ATmega8U2 in the revision 1 and revision 2 boards) programmed as a USB-to-serial converter. The Mega2560 differs from all preceding boards in that it does not use the FTDI USB-to-serial driver chip. If using more than 12V, the voltage regulator may overheat and damage the board. If supplied with less than 7V, however, the 5V pin may supply less than five volts and the board may be unstable. The board can operate on an external supply of 6 to 20 volts. Leads from a battery can be inserted in the Gnd and Vin pin headers of the POWER connector. The adapter can be connected by plugging a 2.1mm center-positive plug into the board's power jack. If I am correct I need plugins and game data.Would appreciate if someone could briefly tell me which files I need Thanks. If you have the dual version of Simon the Sorcerer 2 on CD, you will find the Windows version in the main directory of the CD and the DOS version in the DOS directory of the CD. The Excavation of Hobs Barrow is a classic point-and-click mystery adventure with horror elements. I have installed ScummVM on my Android phone but am not sure what other files I need. Other disadvantages are the place holders required, and the fact the correct title names couldnt be used. We only list the required data files for games, which are actually supported by ScummVM. For more information on how ScummVM uses game data files, see the user documentation. The links (for required data files) shouldnt be auto generated via the template, since they arent required by all game pages. For those platforms, Include Font Data will be ignored, and font data will always be included. Note that some target platforms (WebGL, some consoles) do not have OS default fonts Unity can access for rendering text. If none of the listed fallback fonts are present and have the requested glyph, Unity will fall back to a hard-coded global list of fallback fonts, which contains various international fonts commonly installed on the current runtime platform. When Unity tries to render text with a dynamic font, but it cannot find the font (because Include Font Data was not selected, and the font is not installed on the user machine), or the font does not include the requested glyph (like when trying to render text in east Asian scripts using a latin font, or when using styled bold/italic text), then it will try each of the fonts listed in the Font Names field, to see if it can find a font matching the font name in the project (with font data included) or installed on the user machine which has the requested glyph. This has the advantage that it can save in download size and texture memory, especially when you are using a font which is commonly included in user systems, so you don’t have to include the font data, or when you need to support asian languages or large font sizes (which would make the font textures very large using normal font textures). Instead, it will use the FreeType font rendering engine to create the texture on the fly. When you set the Characters drop-down in the Import Settings to Dynamic, Unity will not pre-generate a texture with all font characters. You will want to vary the size of the font to make these assets look crisp. More info See in Glossary assets are 3d geometry textured with these auto-generated font textures. Unlike many applications you might be familiar with, fonts in Unity are converted into textures, and the glyphs that you display are rendered using textured quads A primitive object that resembles a plane but its edges are only one unit long, it uses only 4 vertices, and the surface is oriented in the XY plane of the local coordinate space. Two assets are created during import: “font material” and “font texture”. When not selected it is assumed that the end user will have the font already installed on their machine. When selected the TTF is included in the output of the build. This setting controls the packaging of the font when used with Dynamic font property. Import Settings specific to dynamic fonts Property: Setting this mode to Dynamic causes Unity to embed the font data itself and render font glyphs at runtime (see below). The character set of the font to import into the font texture The font rendering mode, which tells Unity how to apply smoothing to the glyphs. Supported Font formats are TrueType Fonts (.ttf files) and OpenType Fonts (.otf files). To add a font to your project you need to place the font file in your Assets folder. Theodore Zanto, director of the UC San Francisco Neuroscape‘s Neuroscience Division, told me that 20 participants played a word search game for 20 minutes each day on a tablet, and 20 more played a game that required them to remember and repeat a musical rhythm. One more argument for the benefits of music comes from a small short-term memory study that tested adults between 60 and 80. “You cannot make a musical sound without moving something,” and this taxes the brain in ways that create “new layers of connectivity.” You won’t “stave off Alzheimer’s,” Levitin said, but you might “stave off the noticeable effects of it.” “There is some possibility that physical and mental tasks in tandem are beneficial,” Levitin said. When I told him about Suttle, Levitin - who also wrote “This Is Your Brain on Music” - said it’s likely that decoding music he’d never played before was key, challenging his fingers to process complex signals from his brain. It might well be that for Suttle, having a specific goal and new social networks were as helpful to him as playing the music.ĭaniel Levitin, a musician and neuroscientist who pooh-poohs the benefits of word games in his book “Successful Aging,” told me it’s a little easier to make a case for music. But without large studies over long stretches, it’s hard to reach strong conclusions about any of this. I’d selfishly like to think it was the music that turned things around for Suttle, because I’ve been putting in time on my guitar and learning Spanish. “Plus, the art of executing these onstage in front of a packed house requires a ton of concentration,” said Suttle, who found that he no longer needed to write down his daily schedule. It got so bad that he began writing down his daily schedule so he wouldn’t miss meetings. That’s why I was particularly interested in an email from Michael Suttle, a Dana Point resident who shared a success story.īack in 2010, when he was in his late 50s, Suttle, a software salesman, ocean swimmer and trumpet player, found himself forgetting phone numbers and appointments. So avoiding those things, to the extent possible, might be more helpful than mastering Sudoku.īut as we all know, medical science has a long history of changing its mind about what’s good or bad for us, and there is no more mysterious organ in the body than the brain.Īnd although experts don’t completely understand it, the ones I spoke to said that learning new things - such as music and language - might be helpful. The 12 are excessive alcohol consumption, head injury, exposure to air pollution, lack of education, hypertension, hearing impairment, smoking, obesity, depression, physical inactivity, diabetes and infrequent social contact. Because of where we came from, a brisk off-trail walk in the woods is better for us than a stroll through a park, Grafton said, and “the cognitive challenge in the former drives brain health in profound ways.” Going back 75,000 years, he said, they had to solve tough physical and social challenges to survive. Scott Grafton, a UC Santa Barbara neuroscientist and author of “ Physical Intelligence ,” says humans did not evolve in order to sit around playing word games. But “a healthy lifestyle involves physical and cognitive activities, period.”ĭr. Claudia Kawas, who initiated a long-term study of Laguna Woods residents 90 and older. “Everybody wants to say, ‘Oh, if I do crossword puzzles, or oh, if I eat blueberries,’” said UC Irvine neuroscientist Dr. In fact, exercise, a heart-healthy diet, social engagement, good sleep habits and general physical health were cited by a half-dozen specialists I interviewed about keys to mental acuity. If you had 30 people on the list and you wanted two teams, you would choose "15" and the fifteen random names that showed up from the list would be one team while the other 15 names would be the other team.Īnother option is to use the name randomizer to randomize all the names on your list. Another example of using this as a name picker is if you want to make two teams out of a list of names. If you wanted the random name picker to choose two winners, you would choose "2" and two names from the list would appear. For example, if you're picking a single winner from a list of names, you would choose "1" and the one name generated would be the winner. In this case, you choose the number of names you want to appear. The first way this can be used is as a random name picker. Once you choose it, a box will appear and all you need to do is paste your list of names into the name randomizer. The name randomizer from a list is pretty simple and straightforward. There are two distinct ways it can be used depending on whether you want to create entirely new random names or if you want to use a name randomizer as a name picker from a list of names you already have. The first step is to choose the actual way you want to use it. For those who are looking to create a random name or who are looking for a name randomizer, the Random Name Generator is the perfect tool for you. Indeed, a couple of Van Halen II’s best cuts, such as Beautiful Girls (formerly known as Bring On The Girls) and the energetic, Judas Priest-esque Somebody Get Me A Doctor, had already been established as fan favourites. Van Halen were comfortable in Sunset Sound, but they were also confident they had an arsenal of great songs to choose from. Van Halen Album Covers: All 12 Studio Artworks, Ranked And Reviewed.Best Van Halen Albums: Their Studio Discography, Ranked And Reviewed.Best Van Halen Songs: 20 Hard Rock Classics That Broke All The Rules.Indeed, Eddie Van Halen liked Sunset Sound’s set-up so much that when he later kitted out his own 5150 Studio, he installed a desk similar to the vintage Putnam 610 console used on Van Halen II. As before, the group tracked most of the album live in the studio with the same production team, and they returned to the same facilities, Los Angeles’ Sunset Sound Recorders, where artists such as The Doors and Frank Sinatra had cut many of their classic albums. When they cut their debut album, Van Halen were a precociously gifted young band with little studio experience yet when they returned for Van Halen II, they’d become hardened road dogs who knew their songs inside out – and they firmly believed a classic record was within their grasp.Īll concerned, however, agreed that there was no need to fix what wasn’t broken when it came to recording Van Halen II. With hindsight, though, the circumstances surrounding the recording of Van Halen II differed considerably from those in which the group had created its predecessor. “Ted… said when we were rehearsing, he couldn’t believe how tight we were compared to the first record.” The recording: “The Doors and Frank Sinatra had recorded at Sunset Sound” Speaking to Record Review magazine in April 1979, just weeks after the release of Van Halen II, guitarist Eddie Van Halen recalled how surprised producer Ted Templeman had been by the group’s rapid evolution. It was an entirely deliberate move, too, for all concerned knew they’d honed the material to perfection – even if their drive and proficiency caught their production team on off guard. Yet, barely a week later, the group reconvened in the studio and embarked on the sessions that would sire Van Halen II. They spent months on the road, spreading the gospel with high-profile shows in support of acts such as Montrose, Journey and Black Sabbath, and only returned home early in December. The backstory: “Ted couldn’t believe how tight we were compared to the first record”įollowing the February 1978 release of Van Halen, the Californian quartet spent the remainder of the year promoting the album. However, when Van Halen sought to pursue the US Top 20 success of their landmark self-titled debut album with a follow-up, Van Halen II, it was the band, rather than their label, who applied the pressure. Patient Number 9 is out now and you can pick it up on vinyl, CD and cassette over at Revolver's shop. When a band scores a hit with their debut album, it’s reasonable to assume their record company might hope for a swift follow-up. And if he wants to Sabbath album, I'm not doing it!" "Maybe the tracks he did on my album was like what Sabbath should have been had we stayed together, but I want to take it away from Sabbath. There's no getting away from the fact that, when he plays with me, it'll be some kind of a reflection of that. "If Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi do an album together, it's going to sound like a Sabbath album," Ozzy said. "Tony was the sound of Sabbath. Check it out above via YouTube.Īlthough Iommi has a hefty presence on this new record, and the pair recently untied to rip a couple Sabbath classics at the Commonwealth Games, Ozzy recently shot down the prospect of a proper Sabbath reunion, telling Kerrang! that he wants to distinguish any and all Iommi collaborations as something separate from their former band. While "Degredation Rules" was lyrically bonkers and musically pretty akin to Ozzy's typical solo fare, "No Escape From Now" has a bit more of a Black Sabbath feel to it, beginning with tearful acoustic strumming and building up to a jagged lead riff that Iommi twists into glowing solos and brooding, atmospheric bridge chugs. |
